Deerton
Mariana Lou (Melin) Soderna, age 81, of Deerton, Michigan and formerly of Rockford, Illinois died on Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2014 at her home following a brief illness. She was born on November 7, 1932 in Rockford, Illinois to the late Royd and Linnea (Nygren) Melin. Mariana attended the Rockford Public Schools and graduated from Rockford West High School in 1950. She then graduated from the Swedish American School of Nursing in 1953 and worked at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford Memorial Hospital, and Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. On June 23, 1956, Mariana married William Conrad Soderna in Rockford and together they raised their five children. She volunteered at the Rockford Public Schools while her children were young. They retired to Deerton in 1996.
Mariana is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years - William of Deerton; five children - James (Alanna) Soderna of Milwaukee, WI, Thomas Soderna of West Milford, NJ, Rebecca Soderna of Deerton, MI, David (Stacie) Soderna of Chicago, IL, and Andrew (Julie) Soderna of Arlington Heights, IL; grandchildren - Bridget, Ethan, and Millicent Soderna of Chicago, IL, Charlie, Harry, and Phoebe Soderna of Arlington Heights, IL, and Mary and Grace Soderna of Milwaukee, WI; sister - Suzanne (William) Yeager of Itasca, IL and Gold Canyon, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Deerton Cemetery at a later date.
