Marie Jean (Pangborn) Morin

September 16, 1921 — January 23, 2016

Marie Jean (Pangborn) Morin, age 94, of Henderson, Nevada and formerly of Munising, died peacefully under the loving care of her family and hospice at her home on Saturday morning, January 23, 2016.   She was born on September 16, 1921 in Munising to Martin and Camille (Anderson) Olson.  Marie grew up in Munising and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1939.  She married Clyde Blaine Pangborn in 1941 and they lived in different places while he was with the Coast Guard.  After WWII and Clyde’s service was over, they returned to Munising to raise their four children.  Marie and her family were members of the Methodist Church in Munising.  After her youngest daughter started school, Marie went to work as a teller at the First National Bank.  She also helped Clyde with the books at Pangborn Dry Cleaners.   After getting out of the business in 1969, they moved to Hawaii.  Marie worked at the front desks of the Puamana on Maui and at the Royal Lahaina Resort in Kaanapali.  Marie retired, but found herself bored so she returned to the front desk of the Kaanapali Royal Condos.  Clyde preceded her in death on January 26, 1995.  After Clyde’s death, Marie continued to work at Kaanapali until she was seventy-nine.  She met resident Joe Morin while working and they started a conversation about a Blackjack tournament.   They both were eighty when they married and lived in Henderson, Nevada.  They enjoyed the Vegas life, attended many shows, and took cruises together all over the world.   Joe also enjoyed spoiling Marie.  He preceded her in death in 2007.   Marie loved to play Blackjack.  She enjoyed tournaments and playing third base.  It wasn’t long after she sat at a table for other players to ask her advice.  She was a Blackjack Queen and she played until she was ninety-two.  Marie and her friends were lounge entertainer Mark O’Toole groupies.  She would attend his show weekly or biweekly.  While under hospice care, Mark came to her home and sang for her one last time.  Marie also enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, playing pool, and watching Tiger Woods golf – especially on Sunday when he would wear her favorite color red.

Marie is survived by three children – Joe Pangborn of Huntington Beach, CA, Jean (John) Dugas of Munising, MI and Mary Prepose of Lahaina, HI; five grandchildren – Jaimee (Felix) Cruz-Montanez, Shawn Pangborn, Taulia Tu’ua, Marie Jean (Chad) Sambrano, and Lopeti Tu’ua; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clyde Pangborn in 1995, son Robert Pangborn in 1983, husband Joe Morin in 2007, son-in-law Rogelio “Blue” Prepose in 2015, and siblings Fred Olson, Hazel Weyant, Ethel Manahan, Marty Olson, and Nancy Olson.

Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday, February 5, 2016.  Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.  Marie’s funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Sandra Kolder in the funeral home’s chapel at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
