Munising
Marie Yvonne Rioux, age 97, of Munising, died at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising on Sunday afternoon, March 16, 2008. She was born on March 5, 1911 in Joliette, Quebec to Joseph and Marie Rose (Derouin) Ducharme, the youngest of thirteen children. Marie married Eugene Rioux in 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1949. She worked at Hudson's Dept. Store for many years where she did their intricate beadwork as well as being a seamstress for them. When Queen Elizabeth was married and crowned Queen, Hudson's made replicas of her outfits and Marie worked on both gowns for their window displays. She retired from there in 1976. She was a past member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Highland Park and was a member of Sacred Heart in Munising. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing and knitting.
Marie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Robert Allen of AuTrain; and granddaughter Michelle Allen of Oakland, MI. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Leopold, Louis, Maria Cloutier, Antionette, Edouard, Alfred, Helene Roberts, Marie Flore, Joseph, Charles, Marie-Flore Donalda, Viateur, and an infant sister.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Parish Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at Sacred Heart Church in Munising with Fr. Chris Gardiner officiating. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery.
