Marillyn Joyce Hagerty, age 97, of Munising and formerly of Indiana and Florida, died on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Munising Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 30, 1926 in Elkhart, Indiana to Jewell and Bernice (Warner) Ward. Marillyn graduated from Bristol High School. While working at her family’s restaurant, she was the main pie baker and the main attraction of WWII Veteran, Arthur Hagerty. He courted her at the restaurant and would embarrass her by kissing her in front of the customers and her parents. Marillyn and Art were married in March of 1946. They raised two sons and together had a life filled with adventure, love, and laughter. Marillyn was the social butterfly in their relationship and Art happily chauffeured her wherever she wanted to go. Marillyn served as the Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Indiana, and she was a member of the Red Hat Club. She and Art loved living in Florida and they managed campgrounds in Florida and Virginia where they made countless friends and memories. Marillyn and Art both loved nature and she had a fondness for the birds of the Everglades. They moved from Florida to the Munising area three years ago and she enjoyed going to “The Club” twice a week with Commission on Aging and listening to music at the Falling Rock Café. Marillyn and Art were married seventy-seven years when he preceded her in death on May 3, 2023.
Marillyn is survived by her son – William “Bill” (Kim Buell) Hagerty; grandsons – William (Caitlin) Hagerty and Matthew (Angela) Hagerty; great-grandchildren – Annalyn, Logan, and Addison. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art, son Thomas Hagerty, and brother Jewell “Sonny” Ward, Jr.
