Sundell
Marion Enid Pulkkinen, age 96, or Sundell, Michigan, died Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Medilodge of Munising. She was born on December 26, 1927 in Marquette, Michigan to the late Carl and Lillian (Johnson) Bergh. Marion graduated from Graveraet High School in 1945. She married Waino Mathis Pulkkinen on December 20, 1946 and together they raised their daughter Diane. Marion and Waino moved to Sundell and Marion worked at the Sundell Grocery Store for the Niemi family. She then began working for Haapala’s Store in Rumely where she worked for over thirty years. Their family enjoyed camping and fishing trips even though Marion never wanted to clean or eat the fish. Waino preceded Marion in death in 1979. Marion loved to dance, she traveled all over the U.P. to dance in Gwinn, Ishpeming, Hermansville, and Trenary. If there was a dance, she was not letting a snowstorm or tornado stop her from going. Marion also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, feeding the birds, exterminating the squirrels, knitting, and sewing. Marion was so good about keeping in touch with her large family and loved them all dearly. She also loved dogs and was always willing to dog sit.
Marion is survived by her daughter – Diane Pulkkinen of Sundell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents – Carl and Lillian, husband – Waino; and siblings – Carl, Elmer, Norman, Lillian, Harriett, and Lenore.
