Munising
Marjorie "Marge" Veronica Norberg, age 85, of Carle Arbours Care Facility in Savoy, IL formerly of Munising, died on Friday evening, September 21, 2007, at the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. Marge was born February 4, 1922 in New York City, NY to the late Thomas and Mary (Morrissey) Maher. She grew up and lived in Long Island, NY until she entered the United States Navy in July of 1942. Marge was a WWII veteran and was stationed in Washington, D.C. She was a proud member of the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), and earned the rank of Yeoman Second Class, and was honorably discharged in April of 1946. On April 12, 1953 Marge married Bernard A. Norberg and moved to Munising. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church where she was a Eucharist minister. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 131. Marge had a good sense of humor and enjoyed making people smile. She loved spending time with her family, reading, and singing.
Marge is survived by her daughter - Mary (Thomas) Ahasic of Champaign, IL; grandchildren - Eric, Patrick, and Elena Ahasic all of Champaign, IL; brother - Thomas (Connie) Maher of Dothan, AL; brother-in-law - Jack Carter of Jackson Heights, NY; sister-in-law - Evelyn Lemley of Munising; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents - Thomas and Mary; husband - Bernard on March 7, 1990; infant granddaughter - Sarah Katherine Ahasic; sisters - Kathleen Gionet and Florence Carter.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. A Parish Vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Sacred Heart Church in Munising at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising where the Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
