Marsha Carole Shubert, age 72, of Shingleton, Michigan, died unexpectedly in the Emergency Room of Munising Memorial Hospital on Monday, May 20, 2019 following complications from a congenital heart defect.  She was born on January 18, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late George and Mary (Summers) Ronnback.  Marsha grew up in Duluth, Minnesota and graduated from East High School in 1965.  She attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics in 1969.  She then attended St. Scholastica and studied dietetics earning a second degree in 1971.  Marsha went to work at Divine Infant Hospital in Wayfield, Wisconsin in the dietetics department.  She met James “Jim” Shubert and they were married on June 24, 1972.  Jim’s work moved them around the country and they lived in Bessemer, MI, Newberry, MI, Guntersville, AL, Little Rock, AR, Superior, WI, and finally settled in Shingleton, MI.  It was in 1983 when they opened their home up to their sons.  Jim and Marsha were two of the most loving, sweet, and kind people.  They never turned anyone away and their home was always open to their son’s friends and anyone in need.  While raising her boys, Marsha worked for the USPS as a substitute mail carrier and as a Postmaster relief.  She retired in 2009.  Marsha attended St. John’s Episcopal Church and Christ Lutheran Church where she served on the Bishop’s committee at St. Johns and the church council at Christ Lutheran.   She volunteered many hours at the Alger County Animal Shelter and Marsha was involved with Friends of the Library, Shingleton Recreation Club, Munising Booster Club, and she was a hockey mom.  Marsha even helped start the women’s hockey league in Munising.  She was an avid reader and did counted cross stitch.  Marsha always looked for the sunny positive side in people and in situations.

She is survived by her three sons - Mike (Paige) Shubert of Gladstone, MI, Tim Shubert of Shingleton, and Patrick Shubert of Tempe, AZ; grandchildren – Kaylee, Kamaro, Connor James, and Reese; brother – Greg (April) Ronnback of Wassila, AK; mother-in-law – Nancy Shubert of Elk Mound, WI; and many nieces and nephews.  Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim who died on October 23, 2011, father-in-law John Shubert; three horses – Jigger, Freddie, and Merlin; several dogs including Fluffy, Archie, Dude and Snickers; enumerable cats including – Puss Puss, Boots, and Tukufu, a rabbit, a skunk, and some parakeets.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Monday, June 3, 2019.  Visiting time with family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.  Revs. Marion Luckey and Virginia Mannisto will conduct Marsha’s memorial service at 3:00 p.m.

Memorials in Marsha’s name may be made to St. John’s Stained Glass Window Fund, the Munising Public Library, or the Alger County Animal Shelter.
