Martin “Mort” William Hendrickson, Jr., age 96, of Munising, died at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Hospice. He was born on November 13, 1927 in South Range, Michigan, one of Martin and Sigrid (Laajala) Hendrickson’s six children. Mort was a two-time Veteran of the U.S. Army. He served during WWII and Korea as a radio repairman. He graduated from Michigan Technological University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Mort met the love of his life, Joyce Marie Posio, at the Munising Co-op. They were married on August 25, 1956 and together raised their four children. He was the Civil Engineer for the Alger County Road Commission for many years. The footprint of his work extends across the county. Mort was selfless and loving. He was heartbroken when Joyce preceded him in death on May 17, 2017. They had sixty wonderful years together.
He is survived by their children - Evangeline “Eve” (Terry) Rusk, Christine (Dave) Nace, Sara (John) Rye, and Samuel (Jill) Hendrickson; grandchildren – Ted Rusk, Philip Nace, Keith Rusk, and Christi Ann Baehr; ten great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mort was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, and siblings Lois Hancock, Pauline Lauret, John Hendrickson, David Hendrickson, Grace Allera, and Philip .
A celebration of life gathering will be held at the Munising Baptist Church in Wetmore on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
