Grand Marais

 Mary Ann Fairfield, age 94, of Grand Marais, died peacefully, Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Harbour View Assisted Living in Munising. She was born on July 9, 1930 in Grand Marais, to the late Richard and Mary (Yonkoski) Wood. Mary grew up in Grand Marais around her father’s business Wood & Touzel Garage and Trucking and graduated from Grand Marias High School. She met and married Jack Fairfield who was stationed at the Coast Guard Station in Grand Marais. They lived in the Coast Guard housing by the point before moving to Kansas City, Missouri where they raised their four sons. Mary Ann was a stay-at-home mom raising her sons, but as they grew up, she began working as a clerk at a local grocery store. She was an active member in her church in Kansas City and then at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Grand Marais when she moved back home nearly forty years ago. Mary Ann was a devoted caretaker of her mother. She enjoyed walking the beaches of Grand Marais searching for rocks, playing cards with her friends, and cheering for her beloved Detroit Tigers.

 Mary is survived by her four sons – John (Deborah) Fairfield of Kansas City, MO, Bob (Olivia) Fairfield of Dallas, TX, Mark (Debbie) Fairfield of Hardeeville, SC, and Paul (Doris) Fairfield of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren – Madison, Matt, Dylan, and Sarah; and brother – Pat (Sylvia) Wood of Sault Ste. Marie, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers – Jack (Chris) Wood and Rich (Mary) Wood.

 A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Grand Marais at a later date with interment to follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
