Munising Mary Ellen Brey, age 85, formerly of Commercial Street in Munising, died early Sunday morning, September 22, 2006 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on February 18, 1921 in Munising to the late John and Margaret (Gollinger) Wise. Mary graduated from Sacred Heart School and attended Wm. G. Mather High School. In 1940, she married Henry "Hank" Brey. She helped Hank operate their family businesses. Mary drove the taxi for Brey's Taxi and she helped pump gasoline at the Brey Zephyr Station. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and also a homemaker. Mary loved gardening and will always be remembered for her beautiful rose garden in front of her home.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law - Patricia Brey; grandchildren - Karen Brey Dault, Michael Brey, and Patti (Scott) Steinhoff all of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband of over fifty-four years Hank, son Joe Brey on November 6, 1996, two brothers George and Raymond (Sy) Wise, and sisters Ann Mihalic and Gloria Seglund.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday, October 27, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner at Sacred Heart Church on Friday at 12:10 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
