Mary Magdalene Kordish

Mary Magdalene Kordish, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday evening, March 16, 2013. She was born in Munising on January 3, 1926 to Jacob and Anna (Kaplan) Woodaz. Mary was a graduate of Mather High School and on August 9, 1947 married John Kordish at Sacred Heart Church in Munising. Mary was an active and devoted member of Sacred Heart Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, worked on the funeral luncheon committee, and was a member of the prayer line. Mary also volunteered many years at St. Vinnie's in Munising. She was employed at the Pangborn grocery store in Christmas for many years and at Glen's in Munising. She loved family, church, nature, and dancing the Polka. Mary was a member of the Polish American Society and was proud of her Polish heritage.

She is survived by her seven children - Francis "Johnny" (Cathy) Kordish of Menominee, MI, Robert Kordish of Christmas, Anne (Rick) Gumz of East Troy, WI, Sandy Kordish of Christmas, Mary Sue (Scott) Macy of McMinnville, OR, David (Sherry) Kordish of Eben Junction, and Rita (Billy) Morrison of Christmas; fourteen grandchildren - Benjamin, Andrew, Tiffiny, Cheri, Bryan, Ronald, Emily, Ericka, Glen, Matthew, David, Heather, Dale, and Corey; twenty great-grandchildren; brother - John (Pat) Woodaz, sisters - Cecelia Woodaz, Helen Rzanca, and Stella (Bill) Cabanaw; sister-in-law - Betty Woodaz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband of over fifty-three years - John, who preceded her in death on Mary 25, 2001, brothers Theodore "Tage" and Bernard "Bruno" Woodaz, and one sister Bernice Woodaz.

Services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013. Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will celebrate Mary's Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church in Munising at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising in the spring. Mary will be escorted by her grandsons.
Memorials may be directed to St. Vincent de Paul of Munising (107 Elm Avenue, Munising, MI 49862) in memory of Mary.
