Munising
Mary Schroeder, 95, of Munising, died on Monday morning, January 12, 2015 at Munising Memorial Hospital following a massive stroke. She was born to Michael and Ina (Vahamaki) Jacksich in Munising on October 19, 1919. Mary grew up in Munising and was raised by her parents, Ina and John Salo. She graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1938. Mary married Joseph Schroeder in February of 1939 and they raised their six sons. She was a homemaker and worked many years at the Munising Co-op. Mary enjoyed spending time with Joseph and her family at their camp on Nevins Lake. They were married over fifty-one years when Joe preceded her in death on November 17, 1990. Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Church where she worked on the funeral luncheon committee and was a member of St. Christopher's Circle and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing with her lifelong friend, Dorothy. She was a member of the Pictured Rocks Golf league and a bowling league. Mary worked for many years on the Election Board and Board of Review. She also enjoyed playing cards and more recently reading and watching the Hallmark channel.
She is survived by five sons - Frank of Munising, Mike of Marquette, Tom of Munising, Jim (Jeanne) of Duluth, MN, and Ed (Barb) of Arvada, CO; daughter-in-law - Teri Schroeder of Renton, WA; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister - Ruth (Ken) Warner of Marquette; and several nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Ina and John Salo and Michael Jacksvich, her husband Joseph, her son Paul, and her brother Reino Salo.
Mary's committal service will be on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
