Maryrene (Armstrong) Truckey

November 12, 1930 — September 19, 2021

Munising

Maryrene Truckey, age 90, of 1000 E. Munising Avenue, died on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 12:03 a.m.  She died peacefully in her sleep at Medilodge in Munising where she had been a resident for the last few months.  Maryrene was born on November 12, 1930 to Ernest and Florence (Herron) Armstrong.  She graduated from Graveraet High School in 1948.  Maryrene attended business school at NMU.  She was a hard worker and worked at Montgomery Ward for her first job.  She was an office assistant for Dr. Moore at Cleveland Cliffs, and she spent many years working for the Boy Scouts as a secretary.  Maryrene also managed the office when she and Bill owned Standard Oil Distributorship.  In 1972, she found her dream job when they purchased the Sunset Motel.  Bill would often tease her of running her own Chamber of Commerce.  They made lifelong friends when they owned the Sunset.

Maryrene was a talented artist and nurtured beautiful flower beds.  She loved watching the birds and was an amazing carpenter’s assistant.  She loved organizing her life.  Maryrene wrote beautiful notes and was a “Rosary Warrior” for struggling people.  She prided herself on balancing two 2 x 4s on her shoulders while climbing up a ladder into her 60’s.  She and Bill flipped houses long before it was fashionable.  Maryrene could tell a story like the Irish lass she was.  Her strong faith, beautiful voice, and love of Sacred Heart led her to enjoy volunteering for adoration.  Maryrene also enjoyed her time of fellowship with St. Joseph Circle.

Maryrene is survived by her daughter – Deborah Truckey Servia of Munising; grandchildren – John (Ruth) Servia of Neenah, WI, Joe Servia of Marquette, and Jayme (fiancé Zach Chartrand) of Milwaukee, WI; great-grandchildren – Frank, Olive, and Calvin of Neenah; sisters-in-law – Ruth Truckey of Sault Ste. Marie, Mary Apple of Marquette, and Sharon Armstrong of Maryland.  She was preceded in death by her husband - Bill in 2012;  her parents -  Ernest and Florence; siblings – Ernie Armstrong and Sue Anne Libby and her husband LeRoy; in-laws – Pat and Tom Wiseman, Bob and Dorothy Truckey, Barbara Truckey, Jack Truckey, George and Sue Truckey, and Robert Apple.

Debbie and her kids would like to thank Julie Diesenroth for many home health visits and successful wound care.  Her amazing Nurse Practioner, Chelsey Texter who she grew to love and looked forward to seeing, Commission on Aging and the wonderful helpers – especially Krissy, Kelly, and Michelle, the staff at Medilodge – especially Sara and Craig who assisted with family visits.  Mom was blessed with loving neighbors, Ed and Vicki Korn the last twenty years.  They watched over her and offered important friendship.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Munising on her birthday, Friday, November 12, 2021 at 12:00 noon.

Memorial donations are requested to be made to the Activity Fund at Medilodge or the Alger County Commission on Aging in Maryrene’s name.
