Matthew G. Algoe, age 62, of Munising and formerly of AuTrain and Flint, died at his home following a brief illness on Sunday, November 8, 2020. He was born on April 5, 1958 in Flint, Michigan to the late George and Marjorie (MacLeod) Algoe. Matt grew up in Flint and Holly and in 1973, the family moved to AuTrain. He graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1976 and enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. Matt worked on the ore boats on the Great Lakes and he worked construction and maintenance for Clayton Bonevelle and Dick Perry. He also worked at the White Pine Lodge and the Econo Lodge. At Econo Lodge, Matt was the best “camp leader” to the J1 students from China and Europe. Matt was a Green Bay Packer fan and he enjoyed his trip to Sturgis in 2005 on his Harley. He enjoyed living at the manor and was always willing to help anyone who needed something or a ride. Matt was a special guy with a huge heart, and he loved spending time with his family and nieces and nephews.
Matt is survived by four brothers – Robert, Tracey, Charles, and Chris; a sister – Agnes, special “nephews and nieces” – Scott, Johnny, Hannah, Shane, Lane, Mercedes; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his all-time favorite, John Wayne.
Private graveside services will be held at the Serenity Pines Cemetery in AuTrain with Father Michael Ocran leading committal prayers.
