Melvin Langevin

Melvin "Mel" Langevin, age 82, of FFH 13 in Wetmore, died unexpectedly at Marquette General Hospital on Tuesday, December 30, 2008. He was born on November 15, 1926 in Munising as one of six children to the late Wilfred and Rose (Cota) Langevin. Mel moved to Detroit with his family during WWII while his mother worked in a defense plant. He entered the United States Army from 1946 until March of 1948, where he was an officer's cook in Japan. On September 23, 1950 Mel married Rose Ann Hinds in Detroit and honeymooned in Munising. In 1986 he retired from T & E Litho Plate and Mel and Rose Ann moved to the U.P. to live full time at their summer home on Highway- - 13, the old "Club 13". His hobbies were hunting, trout fishing, cutting wood, spending time with friends, and tinkering with something in the garage. Mel was a loving husband and great father who always had a perpetual smile on his face.
Mel was survived by his wife of fifty-eight wonderful years - Rose Ann Langevin of Wetmore; daughters - Linda (Ben) McGarey of Allenton, MI and Nanette (Ashley Quiroz) Langevin of Roseville, MI; son - Jim Kleist of Midland, TX; grandchildren - Benny Lee and Melissa Rose McGarey and Cody Quiroz; sister - Alice Clark of Wichita, KS; and numerous dear nieces and nephews. Also close friends Carol Sue and Leonel Garcia and Judy and Jerry Rogers. He was preceded in death by sons - Donald and Mark Langevin; his parents; sister - Alvena (Lowell) Doucette; and brothers - Gilbert (Eleanor) Langevin, Keith Langevin, and infant brother Donald.
A memorial service celebrating Mel's life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at the Langevin home. The Alger County Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mel's name to the Marquette Kidney Dialysis unit at Marquette General Hospital.
