Melvin L. McFee, age 83, of Grand Marais, died on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. He was born on January 16, 1926 in Dowagiac, Michigan to the late Floyd and Marie McFee. Mel enlisted into the U.S. Navy and was a WWII Veteran in the Asiatic Pacific Theater where he served aboard the USS Smalley. He worked as a mason for many years and his first job was working on the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island. Mel worked all over the United States. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at casinos around the U.S. Mel attended the First Lutheran Church in Grand Marais.
He is survived by two daughters - Diane DeNomie of Milwaukee, WI and Jodi (Dale) Borah of Columa, MI; grandchildren - Delrae, Jessica, Michael, Kimberly, and Melissa; great-granddaughter - Sydney; special friend - Georgiana Mixon of Grand Marais; and two nieces - Becky and Sherry. Mel was preceded in death by his wife Donna McFee, sister Vera Taylor, and nephew Chris.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Grand Marais with Pastor Bob Gardner officiating.
