Gwinn
Michael John Oberg, age 46, of Gwinn and formerly of Escanaba, died unexpectedly, Friday, March 27, 2015 at his family's home in Munising. He was born on February 26, 1969 in Escanaba, to John and Joan (Gierke) Oberg. Mike graduated from Escanaba High School in 1987. He then moved to Orlando, Florida where he worked at Walt Disney World and then started his twenty-two year career with the Airlines. He worked for Comair, Delta, American, and American Eagle, as a Lead Ticket Agent, completing his final ten years at Sawyer. Mike enjoyed flight following and air traffic control simulations on his computer, researching genealogy, camping across the Hiawatha National Forest, and caring for his cats Phoebe and Cole. He was a member at St. Anthony Church in Gwinn, where he previously was an altar server.
Mike is survived by his father - John Oberg of Munising; brothers - Ron (Carol) Oberg of Gooseneck Lake, Jim (Andrea) Oberg of Lakewood, CO; nieces and nephews - Kristin, Tom, Matt and Kayla; and great-nieces - Emma and Haley; uncle - Michael (Joan) Gierke; aunt - Kathleen (Howard) Collinson. He was preceded in death by his mother - Joan Oberg, grandparents, and aunt Ruth Ann "Hootie" (Martin) Holmberg.
A memorial Mass will be held at a later date at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn. Memorials in Mike's name may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, 280 N. Boulder St., Gwinn, MI 49841.
