Traunik
Michael Jeffrey Taskey, age 51, of E1968 H-44, Traunik, died on Wednesday afternoon, September 18, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital following an unexpected heart attack on Saturday. He was born on September 26, 1961 in Marquette, Michigan to Raymond and Rosalee (Trowbridge) Taskey. Mike went to elementary school in Traunik and then attended school in Eben. During high school, he played basketball and he graduated from Eben High School in 1979. Mike loved the woods. He went to work for Seymour Forest Products out of Rapid River as a piece maker. While working for Red and Shirley Seymour, he met his future wife, Marci. It took Mike a few years to realize that Marci had a HUGE crush on him. Mike and Marci were married on September 17, 1988. The week before they were married, Mike went to work for A. Lindberg and Sons Construction for three years. He then went back to the wood as a partner in Triple T Forest Products. Mike then owned his own business, Michael Taskey Forest Management for many years. Throughout the years, he had also returned back to Lindberg and Sons for another seven seasons. In October of 2007, Mike was hired at the Alger County Road Commission as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He was working there until the time of his death.
In 1985, Mike had started building his own log home. After they were married, he and Marci continued their labor of love. It is a good thing that they were good friends because they spent many years together - shingling, staining, sanding, sanding, sanding, and more sanding, installing kitchen cabinets and flooring. They were proud of their blood, sweat, and tears spent together. They also enjoyed their work on their food plots and building a hunting camp, and Mike enjoyed (Marci did not) meticulously cutting and stacking firewood. Taking Sunday drives in the woods was their thing. They enjoyed many Funyuns, Orange Crushes, and beef jerky together on those Sunday afternoons. Mike and Marci had a lot of fun together. Their Cocker Spaniels were their kids and Jesse the Old Man was his favorite, but he also loved Buddy, Jeremy, Jordan, and Molly.
Mike and Marci also enjoyed traveling together along with their family and they were able to take a trip to London in 2001. A trip to Alaska in 2007 to visit a nephew allowed him to fulfill a lifelong dream of fishing in Alaska. Mike and his brother, Kevin took a trip to Canada deer hunting and they were looking forward to someday returning there together. Mike was also a history fan and especially enjoyed the world history that surrounded wars. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan. Mike also made Marci watch Kelly's Heroes every time he found it on television.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed deer hunting for trophies, partridge hunting, coho fishing with Uncle Jug, brook trout fishing in the spring, and trapping. He shared his passion and love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and trapping with his nieces and nephews. Mike loved spending quality time with his nieces and nephews. They each had a unique and special relationship with their Uncle Mike. He has had a big influence in many of their lives.
Mike loved his family. He really missed his Grandpa Trowbridge who had a big impact on his life. He was a good man who was caring and giving. Mike built his own apple orchard and tended a blackberry patch because that piece of property was important to Marci's mom and sister. He helped his in-laws whenever he could. Under Mike's tough guy appearance, he had a heart of gold and he was generous with his time and talents to those he loved.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-five years - Marci Taskey of Traunik; his mother - Rosalee Taskey of Traunik; siblings - Vanessa (Tom) Curry of Trenary, Steven (Kristi) Taskey of Chatham, Kelly (Matt) Maki of Chatham, and Kevin (Laura) Taskey of Traunik; parents-in-law - Marcel "Red" and Shirley Seymour of Rapid River; siblings-in-law - Amy (Brett) Richmond of Trenary, Paul (Steven Delany) Seymour of Corinth, TX, and Paula Seymour of Corinth, TX; nieces and nephews - Joshua, Brittney, Christopher, Nathan, Josh, Amber, Gabe, Stephanie (who is also Mike's Godchild), Leah, Dena, Elissa, Matt, Laurin, Amanda, and Raymond "Joey"; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and great nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his father Raymond Taskey and grandparents Raymond and Maudie Trowbridge and Raymond and Mary Taskey.

Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Saturday, September 21, 2013. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Pastor Ted Jolls will officiate Mike's funeral service at 8:00 p.m. On Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Kevin and Laura's home in Ladoga there will be a celebration of life gathering from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m.
