Mildred "Mitzie" (nee McQuisten) Fritz, age 77, of 510 S. 15th Street, Escanaba and formerly of Munising, died Monday evening, August 23, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba following a lengthy illness of Crohn's Disease. Mitzie was born in Munising to Albert and Pearl (Taylor) McQuisten on October 28, 1932. She graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School. Mitzie married Charles "Charlie" Fritz on October 28, 1961. They moved to Iowa and lived there for fourteen years returning to the Escanaba area in 1975. She was a homemaker and mother to Steve Fritz. Mitzie enjoyed camping and fishing with her family and ceramics and reading until her eyesight failed.
She is survived by her husband of over forty-eight years - Charlie Fritz of Escanaba; son - Steve Fritz of Escanaba; brother - Gerald "Butch" (Edna) McQuisten of Escanaba; sister-in-law - Cecilia McQuisten of Munising; nephew - Greg McQuisten of Munising; and other cousins and nephews. Mitzie was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Pearl, sister Beverly McQuisten and brothers Jack, Floyd, Richard and Robert McQuisten and an infant sibling.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Home in Munising on Friday, August 27, 2010 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Pastor Irene White will conduct Mitzie's funeral service in the funeral home's chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
