Muriel Mae (Trombley) Binns, age 75, of Munising and formerly of Whitehall, Michigan, died on Monday morning, September 7, 2009 at the Superior Health Haven in Munising. She was born on September 26, 1933 in Munising to Charles and Greta (Masters) Trombley. Muriel graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1952 and worked at Mary's Grill and the Munising Paper Mill before moving to Whitehall in 1957. Muriel was a pastry chef at the White Lake Resort for many years. She met John William Binns, the local Whitehall postal carrier, and they were married on February 17, 1968. They were married twenty-two years when John preceded her in death in September of 1990. Following the death of her husband, Muriel had some health issues and moved to Munising in April of 2000. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, an avid reader, enjoyed writing poetry, and was a great cook.

Muriel is survived by brothers - Jerry S. Scott of Water Valley, MS and Loyst Trombley of Dana Lake; sisters - Millicent Dunn of Munising, Carol Bejarano of Munising, Cora (William) Karrak of Williamsfield, IL, and Charlene Kay (Jim) Bardo of Coffeeville, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Edith Braatz, brothers-in-law Everett Braatz, Edward Dunn, and Tony Bejarano, and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Munising on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Robert Sutherland will conduct Muriel's services. There will be visiting time with family and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services. Muriel will be buried by her husband in the Whitehall Cemetery.
