Chatham
Nancy J. Bond, age 79, of Chatham, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 1:00 a.m. at Marquette General Hospital. She was born on November 14, 1934 in Royal Oak, Michigan, the youngest child of William and Gertrude (Giller) Wadsworth. Nancy's father died in an automobile accident three months before she was born and she and her siblings were raised by her mother. Nancy graduated from Royal Oak Dondero High School in 1952. She started nurse's training in the fall and graduated as a registered nurse in 1955 from the Highland Park General Hospital program. Nancy met Keith E. Bond on July 9, 1955 and they were married at the Presbyterian Church in Highland Park on February 4, 1956. Nancy continued her nursing career as she raised their four sons and she and Keith were also foster parents for twelve years. She worked at William Beaumont Hosptial in Royal Oak, Pontiac General, and then retired after twenty years with Oakland County Registry - Private Duty Health. Nancy was a member of the Big Beaver United Methodist Church in Troy where she also belonged to the women's church society. She was a den mother for Boy Scouts for many years and as her granddaughters grew, she became involved with Girl Scouts. Nancy enjoyed gardening and always enjoyed canning. She worked summers as the camp nurse at Bay Shore Camp in Sebewaing. Nancy and Keith enjoyed traveling and camping in their motor home. In 2004, they moved to the Chatham area and joined the United Methodist Church in Trenary where she was a member of the women's fellowship group. She loved going for rides with Keith whether they were planned or spontaneous.
Nancy is survived by her best friend and husband of over fifty-eight years - Keith Bond of Chatham; three sons - Terrance (Peggy) Bond of Shingleton, Timothy Bond of Troy, and David (Beth) Bond of Taylor; grandchildren - Thomas, Robert, Heather, Melissa, Blake, Keith David, and Isabella; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law - Naoma (Larry) Henry, Donna Bond, and Beverly Bond; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Jeffrey Bond in 2011, granddaughter Violet Bond, brother William Wadsworth, and sisters Mary Near and Jean Torvinen.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Pastor Sandra Kolder will officiate a memorial service on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Trenary. Visiting time will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at a later date at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham.
