Steuben
Neil Carl Holtom, age 76, of Steuben, died early Monday morning, December 9, 2013 at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Home Hospice. He was born on January 30, 1937 in Bellevue, Michigan to the late Carl and Katherine (Jones) Holtom. Neil graduated from Bellevue High School. He entered into the United States Marie Corps serving in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in September of 1963. Neil married Irene Drummond on April 30, 1960; she preceded him in death in the late 1960's. Neil worked for a short time as a Deputy Sheriff in Three Rivers, Michigan before working for Perkins Diesel. He then took his diesel skills to Alaska where he worked as heavy equipment mechanic for the Alaskan Railroad. Neil took a short leave from the railroad when he moved to New Mexico as a Deputy Sheriff. There he met and married Margie Mitchell on April 22, 1982. After retiring from the Rail Road Neil and Margie moved to Steuben to be closer to family, yet still be in the wilderness. Neil enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-one years - Margie Holtom of Steuben; children - Sherry (David) Kordish of Eben Junction, MI, Kelly (Dave) Ashbaugh of Wasilla, AK, Wilhemina and Rick Martin of Logan, NM, Aaron (Carol) Morris of Homer AK, David (Linda Morris of Tucumcari, NM, Harvey (Tella) Morris of Tucumcari, NM, Michelle Mather of Pueblo, CO, Kenny Martin of Phoenix, AZ, Tom (Karrie) Mather of Roosevelt, UT, Alvian Mather of Colorado, and Jaylene (David) Bryce of Texas; eighteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister Louise Watts; step-mother - Wilma Holtom; step-brothers and sisters - Bonnie, Gary, Jack, and Nancy. Neil was preceded in death by his parents - Carl and Katherine; son - baby Carl; and wife - Irene Adelle (Drummond) Holtom.
No public services will be held at this time. Memorials may be made in Neil's name to the North Woods Home Care and Hospice in Munising.
