Niama V. Moote

Munising             Niama V. Moote, age 85, of Indiantown Road, Munising died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Sunday, March 23, 2014. She was born on April 13, 1928 in Munising to Victor and Ebba (Nillson) Baij. Niama graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1947. She married Gordon "Curly" A. Moote on June 21, 1952 and together they raised their five children. Niama spent her entire life in Munising except for four years when Curly's work brought the family to Ishpeming. Niama was an excellent cook and baker and she loved to golf and play cards. Up until two years ago, she would still golf at least twice a week and continued to play cards three times a week. Niama enjoyed the fun times she had at her family's camp, the Playboy's Club on Grand Island. She was also very proud of her Master Angler Award she received for the largest small mouth bass caught in Michigan in 1978. Niama was a member of Eden Lutheran Church in Munising and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.             She is survived by her five children - Michelle "Shelly" Hubert of Harvey, Patti (Al) Freeman of Munising, Gordon (Kim) Moote of Munising, Dan Moote of Springs, TX, and Luann (Dale) Carrier of Negaunee Township; sister - Kinky Werner of Munising; grandchildren - Kendall (Carrie) VanLandschoot, Beau (Jen) VanLandschoot, Jerry LeBoeuf, Laura LeBoeuf, Cyle Wickstrom, Dustin Moote, Brent (Marion) Moote, Chad Moote, Lindsey (Chris) Glowa, and Mandy Carrier; six great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister-in-law - Phyllis Baij; special niece and nephew - Betty Demorest and Tom Baij, and numerous other nieces and nephews. Niama was preceded in death by her husband - Curly Moote; father - Victor Baij; mother - Ebba Boyd; siblings - Mary (Bud) Resky, Ethel (Floyd) St. Amour, Isabelle (Leo) Rick, and Hans Baij; and brother-in-law - Judge Bill Werner.             Visitation will be on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Eden Lutheran Church in Munising. At 1:00 p.m. Pastor Elisabeth Zant will conduct Niama's funeral service. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date where the Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service. Memorials in Niama's name may be made to Eden Lutheran Church or the Munising Senior Citizen Club, Inc. ****Niama's committal service will be on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.  The Order of the Eastern Star will start the graveside service at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Elisabeth Zant leading committal prayers.*******
