Christmas
Olga Catherine Steinhoff, age 86, of M-28 Christmas, died on Saturday morning, July 21, 2007 at Marquette General Hospital. Olga was born on November 24, 1920 in Traunik, Michigan to the late Anton and Antonia (nee Mahne) Knaus. She grew up working on her family farm and graduated from Eben High School in 1940. Olga married Wallace "Speck" Steinhoff on January 17, 1942 and together they raised their four children. They lived in Detroit for many years before moving back to the U.P. in 1961. Back in the U.P., Olga and Speck specialized in making fish boxes for the local fishermen. She was in charge of running the family mink farm in Christmas until it closed in the late 60's and was the bookkeeper for Wallace Steinhoff Wood Products. Olga enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, crocheting, playing backgammon, playing the slots at the casino, and she carved amazing wooden flowers. Even though Olga worked extremely hard at her jobs, she was most proud of being a stay at home mother taking care of her children and spending time with her grandchildren.
