Munising
Pasquale "Pat" Bartilucci, age 94, of Munising, died late Thursday evening, June 5, 2014 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. He was born on July 30, 1919 in Manhattan, NY to Pietro and Vincenza (Pozzolo) Bartilucci. Pat grew up in Little Italy in New York City. In April of 1944, he entered into the U.S. Army and served as a Sergeant during WWII in the U.S. Medical Corps. It was in the operating room at McCloskey General Hospital in Temple, Texas where he met Corporal Theda Hoy and nicknamed her "Babs." After they were both discharged from the Army, they were married at Sacred Heart Church in Munising on August 8, 1946. The young couple settled in Queens County, N.Y.C. By 1955, Pasquale worked and continued his schooling as an electronic tech for the Sperry Rand Corporation out of Lake Success, NY. He attended school during the evenings at Hofstra University and completed his Bachelor of Science in Physics Degree in 1963. Pasquale then went to work at Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Bethpage, NY as a Reliability Engineer where he worked on the Apollo Moon Program and the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory. He also worked on the Navy F-14 Tomcat fighter program. Pat and Theda also enjoyed boating. He and Babs would sail the "Theda B." out of the Long Island Port Jefferson Yacht Club on Long Island South, the Connecticut River, Peconic Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. In 1980, Pat fully retired and he and Babs returned to Theda's home, the Upper Peninsula. They lived in AuTran and then moved to Munising. Pat always admired and praised the size and beauty of Lake Superior, often saying it was not a lake, but a small ocean. He always loved the people and solitude of Alger County. Pasquale was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church in Munising and he was involved with many different organizations. His two favorite organizations were the Knights of Columbus where he was a member of the Fourth Degree and the American Legion. In later years, Pat considered himself a true Yooper, but he never forgot his rich ethnic Italian beginnings.
Pat is survived by his sister-in-law - Elizabeth Keller of West Bend, WI; nieces - Clare Ann Mutter of Munising, Mary Beth Ryan of Elkhorn, WI, Patricia Ehlers of Caro, MI and Barbara (Cliff) Sayre of West Bend, WI; nephew - Mike (Sherri) Hoy of Caro, MI; Godson - Peter Adam Finn of New York; and numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and Pasquale's heart was broken when his beautiful Babs died on June 29, 2009. They were married over sixty-three years.
