Eben Junction
Paul Y. Juntunen, age 49, of Eben Junction, died at Marquette General Hospital on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 following a brief illness. He was born on May 28, 1962 in Marquette, Michigan to Elmer and Aune (Koski) Juntunen. Paul graduated from Eben High School in 1980 where he enjoyed playing on the Eagle basketball team. He worked as Corrections Officer for the State of Michigan for fifteen years at Marquette Branch Prison and then at Alger Maximum Correctional Facility. Paul was an avid hunter, fisher, and trapper. He also enjoyed gardening, and was proud of his large pumpkins that he would donate for raffles, which would raise money for Superior Central Boosters and Bay Cliff Health Camp. Paul was a Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Vikings fan. He loved coaching the girls basketball and boys baseball teams at Superior Central and enjoyed taking the players to summer camps. Paul was a very kind and generous man.
He is survived by his loving parents - Elmer and Aune Juntunen of Eben Junction; aunts - Ailie Peach of Nashville, TN, Alma Luoma of Sprill Hill, FL, Arlene Keskimaki of Gwinn, Eva Van Horn of Pinetop, AZ, Nancy (Robert) Ranta of Gwinn, Marie (Donald) Hakkola of Eben Junction, and Edna Koski of Gladstone; numerous cousins; step-children - Jeanette (Blayne) Merik of Ishpeming and James Anderson of Abrams, WI. Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts, uncles and several cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Eben. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Pastor Tom Schierkolk will conduct Paul's funeral at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham. He will be escorted by Randy Maki, John Nord, Scott Hostetler, Stephen Koski and Michael, David, Kevin and Danny Pelkola. Honorary escorts will be the Superior Central girls basketball team.
