Paula Ann Gearu, age 56, of Chatham, died unexpectedly at her home following a brief illness on Friday morning, August 5, 2022. She was born on April 11, 1966 in Marquette, Michigan to the late Richard and Pauline (McMaster) Gearu. Paula was raised in the family farmhouse in Kiva and attended Trenary and Eben High Schools. Paula met Jerry Hill and have spent over twenty years together. They raised Paula’s daughter, Sarah Wellman, together in Limestone. Paula enjoyed baking and was a great cook. She loved spending time together with family and she cherished being Gramma to Ady.
Paula is survived by her daughter and son-in-law – Sarah and Brandon Nelson of Limestone; granddaughter – Ady; longtime partner and caregiver – Jerry Hill of Chatham; siblings – Carol Gearu of Munising, Clay Gearu of Marquette, Diane Clausen of Kansas, Kay (Bob) Myers of Gladstone, Theodore (Jean) Gearu of Baraga, Kenneth Gearu, and Linda (John) Seppi of Chatham; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers John Gearu and Glen Gearu.
Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Paula’s funeral will be at 12:00 noon in the funeral home’s chapel and will be conducted by Pastor Ted Jolls. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
