Pearl Elizabeth McCollom, age 81, of Shingleton, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at her home under the loving care of her children. She was born on June 17, 1933 to the late Sheldon and Daisy (Saunders) McPherson at their family home on Star Siding Road. Pearl graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1951 and soon moved downstate to look for work. She met and married Clarence H. "Mac" McCollom on October 2, 1954 and together they raised their seven children. Pearl served on the PTA for over twenty-five years in the Walled Lake School District and was honored as a Life Member of the National PTA in 1986. She moved back to the Upper Peninsula in 1986 to build a log house in the woods that she called her "Someplace Special." Pearl was a member of the Alger County Homemakers and a board member of the Alger County Fair Board for over twenty years. She began working as an office assistant for the Alger County Commission on Aging in the early 1990's and retired in 2006. Pearl was an accomplished seamstress and dress maker, specializing in formalwear and wedding dresses.

She is survived by her seven children - Pamela (Jeff Code) Baker of White Lake, MI, Cynthia (Dan) Bentley of Holly, MI, Patricia (Stephan) Banet of Granger, IN, Tina (Tim) Bentley of Atlas, MI, Michael "Mac" McCollom of Fayetteville, NC, Shannon (Jim) Blackwell of Orion, MI, and Stephan McCollom of Chicago, IL; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren with another on the way; three great-great grandchildren with one on the way; siblings - Bernice Shelley, Ken (Dorothy) McPherson, and Sheron Keeley; sister-in-law - Marlene McPherson and Jean (Mark) Wikoff; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mac, brothers Edwin, Orville, Fred and Alton McPherson, brothers-in-law - Emerson Shelley and Tom Keeley, and son-in-law Del Baker.

Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pearl's name are requested to be made to the Alger County Commission on Aging.
