Peggy Ann Woropay

Peggy Ann Woropay, age 69, of Grand Marais, died peacefully and unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, February 2, 2023.  She was born in Detroit on April 28, 1953 to the late Stanley “Ward” and Dorothy (Harchuk) Woropay.  Peggy grew up in Sterling Heights and graduated from Warren High School in 1971.  She moved to Grand Marais and worked as a housekeeper at the Dunes Motel and at rentals in the area.  Peggy was a talented artist and had a hippy style free spirit.  She was a gifted jewelry maker, painter, crocheter and knitter.  She and her mom Dorothy owned and operated the Crystal Pinecone Gift Shoppe in Grand Marais.  Peggy loved animals, especially her cats.  She enjoyed blueberry picking and hunting for agates.  Peggy was an active and faithful member of the First Lutheran Church of Grand Marais.  She often shared her baked goods of breads and cookies at church.

She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law – Nancy and Chuck Van Hoose and Jane and Bill Hayward; nephew – Bradley Van Hoose; nieces – Amy (Derek) Nothstine, Rebecca (Joseph) Eliakis, and Laura (James) Krajenta; great nieces and nephews – Ethan, Lauren, Sofia, Giovanni, Charlotte, and Madalyn.  Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Ward and Dorothy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Grand Marais
