Peter Leon Kadish, age 76, of Christmas, died peacefully and unexpectedly at his home the early morning of Tuesday, April 2, 2024. He was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on June 10, 1947 to the late Peter and Mary (Galantowicz) Kadish. His parents, sisters, and Pete were members at St. Elizabeth Church in Wyandotte. Pete was a member of the Class of 1965 at Roosevelt High School. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy at the age of seventeen on January 30, 1965. He spent most of the time in the service stationed out of Kamiseya, Japan. Pete was honorably discharged on June 13, 1968. He returned to Michigan and went to work for the Ford Motor Company as a plumber/pipefitter. As a child, Pete spent time with his father at the family’s camp in Seney. It was there he found the love of the Upper Peninsula and moved here in 1973. Pete worked various jobs in the construction trades and owned his own company, Superior Land Builders. An opportunity to work for the Department of Corrections happened, and Pete went to school to become a Corrections Officer. He worked at Alger Max and retired on March 31, 2004. Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. His secret morel spots were the envy of all morel hunters. He loved music, dancing, and an occasional 51K. Music festivals were one of his most enjoyable pastimes and the Hiawatha Music Festival was his favorite. Pete loved his family and friends. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and could be found in the back row wearing a Hawaiian shirt. Pete was also an active member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the American Legion.
He is survived by children – Robben (Colleen) Kadish of Spring Lake, NC, Anna (Roy) Chan of Brookfield, CT, Jean “J.P.” (Hope) Kadish of Vail, AZ, Amy (“Suzie” to Pete) Peterson of Marshall, MI, Peter (Taryn) Peterson of Niceville, FL, Fawn (Rob) Freeborn of Manistique, MI, and Mark (“Monk” to Pete) Peterson of Meridian, ID; grandchildren – Cody, Jacob, Wava, Greyson, Elijah, Noah, Carson, Carter, Olliana, Izak, Cora, Blaine, Levi, Leo, and Monk’s Willie Nelson - the dog; seven great-grandchildren – Abigail, Nathan, Paisley, Connor, Lucifer, Alex “Sweet Pea”, and Olivia; sister – Carolyn Wysack of Wyandotte, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pete was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Lou Forcier.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Munising on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising where military honors will be rendered.
Pete’s family will be wearing his Hawaiian shirts during his services, and they invite friends to join.
