Munising
Peter "Pete" Michael Koski, age 67, of Hemlock Street, Munising, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday evening, September 25, 2011 following a battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was born on July 14, 1944 in L'anse, Michigan, to the late Arthur and Margaret (Kaarlela) Koski. Pete lived in Keweenaw Bay until the ninth grade when his family moved to Ann Arbor, where he graduated from Pioneer High School. He entered into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1965 through 1966, and was honorably discharged. Pete returned home to Ann Arbor and began working for his father at the Koski Standard Gas Station in Ypsilanti. He married Kathleen "Kitty" Massie on August 24, 1974, and together they raised their seven children. In the Spring of 1975 Pete enrolled at Michigan Tech University and in two and half years he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, with honors. Pete held many jobs and committee positions throughout the years; he first started with Pettibone for eight years and was eventually the Village Manager of Baraga, and worked with the BP Station in Munising. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the VFW. He loved to read, golf, go on walks, and above all he loved his grandchildren dearly.
Pete is survived by his wife of thirty seven years, Kathleen "Kitty" Koski, of Munising; his children Tina (Andrew) Heikkinen of Baraga, and grandchildren John and Harlie Davis, Joe Koski of Escanaba, Amie (Jeremiah) Mleko of Traverse City, MI and their children Isaac, Elijah, Samuel, Jonah, and Sadie Mleko, Kylene (Justin) Richards of Redford, NC, their children Drake, Cole, Axl, and Katie Richards, Peter Koski of Yankton, SD, Stephanie (Ryan) Vining of Munising and grandchildren Riley Koski and Ryan and Rex Vining, and Rebekah (Josh) Smith of Munising and grandchild Christian Smith; siblings - Bill (Mary) Koski of Las Vegas, NV, Nancy (Don) Becker of Ann Arbor, Tom (Nancy) Koski of Missouri, Paul (Winnie) Koski of Las Vegas, Bobby (Beth) Koski of Texas, Karen (Larry) Roe of Las Vegas, and Mary Beth Koski of Walled Lake, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Margaret.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Munising from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Pete's memorial service will begin at 6:00 p.m. starting with military honors being conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard and Alger County Veterans Council immediately followed by Deacon John Weber conducting the church services.
