Munising
Peter Edward Penegor, age 69, formerly of Orange County, California and Munising, and currently residing in Escanaba, died unexpectedly on Saturday evening, April 15, 2006 in the emergency room of the Eagle River Memorial Hospital in Eagle River, Wisconsin. He was born on December 24, 1936 in Munising to John "Jack" and Martha Penegor. Peter graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School. In May of 1958, Peter entered into the U.S. Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Sierra before being honorably discharged in December of 1958 from the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. Peter married Lori Ries in the early 1960's and they moved to California then Ohio. Their son, Sean, was born in Ohio and they resided there for a few years before returning to California. Lori preceded him in death in April of 1985. Peter's employment history included working as a salesman for U.S. Divers, a buyer for a metal company, he worked at the Charles Darwin Research Institute, was the manager of the LA Times early edition delivery center, worked at the Disneyland Hotel, and as an auditor in the accounting department of the Regional Center of Orange County. On February 2, 1991, Peter married Sara Elena Mendoza. They moved to Escanaba a couple of years ago. Peter enjoyed scuba diving, woods working, macramé, drawing, writing, and poetry. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Peter is survived by his wife - Sara Penegor of Escanaba; his son and daughter-in-law - Sean and Joanne Penegor of Shakopee, MN; and his eight month old grandson, Dylan Penegor. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack Penegor and Martha Heldmann Penegor and his half-brother Jack Heldmann.
Friends may call at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, April 21, 2006 at 12:00 noon at Sacred Heart Church in Munising and interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising. The Alger County Veterans Council will conduct military honors at the gravesite.
