Peter A. Symon

On Thursday, April 22, 2021, Peter Andrew Symon, loving husband, and proud father passed away at the age of 74. Pete was born on June 13, 1946 in Munising, MI and was the son of Charles and Barbara (Doolittle) Symon. Pete grew up in Munising and graduated from Mather High School in 1964. He was a single father to Patty and the two shared a special father-daughter bond. Pete reconnected with his classmate Margaret Cleven and the two were married shortly after on June 20, 1996. He attended Ferris State University and worked odd mechanic jobs until he started his own trucking business hauling telephone poles and logs until he retired in 2013 but continued working on small engines. Pete loved tinkering and taking things apart from a young age. He was an inventor. “Greasy Pete” could find a way to “fix” anything! He enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was camping at Pete’s Lake, floating around in the pontoon boat, showing off his antique engines and creations at steam engine shows, or building soap box cars for the grandkids or anyone else that needed one. Pete loved talking with buddies in the garage, or on the phone, and always wanted to know the latest gossip. Whatever he was involved in, lifelong friendships and memories were made.

He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Symon of Munising, his daughter Patty (Donnie) Willson of Munising, his step-children – Anne (Will Cantrell) Newcombe, Linda (Rick) Nelson, and Ric Newcombe, his grandchildren – Erin, Symon, Sophia, Dustin, David, Valerie, Andrew, Daniel, Xander, Derric, and Augie, his brothers – Jon (Roberta) Symon, Andy (Cindy) Bailey, and Thomas (Roberta) Bailey, and several nieces and nephews. Pete was preceded in death by his parents and sister Sue (Fred) Hyde.

A celebration of Pete’s life will be July 3, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at the Symon residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to Northwoods Home Nursing or Alger County Commission on Aging in Pete’s name.
