Munising
Phillip J. “Phil” Marzion, age 74 of Munising, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Munising Memorial Hospital following a recent illness. He was born on July 25, 1948 in Troy, Michigan to Frank and Genevieve (Baldyga) Marzion. Phil loved playing baseball as an adolescent and made many All-Star teams. He graduated from high school and then attended college in Santa Maria, California. Phil worked with his brother at Cue and Cushion which was a family recreational center with food and pool tables. He was drafted into the U.S. Army. Following the tragic death of his brother, Phil moved back to help his sister-in-law and nieces. He eventually moved back to Michigan and worked construction with his brother. Phil was a great caregiver of his mother in her retirement. They moved to the Powell Lake area, and Phil worked in the woods as a sawyer and was an independent contractor doing cement work. Phil married Joyce Mierzejewski on April 3, 2012 who was an old friend that he met in 1988. They were best friends and did everything together. Phil cheered on the Detroit Tigers and Oakland A's, he enjoyed gardening, cars, fixing up their home, remodeling, and teaching Joyce hands on of carpentry and mechanic skills. They were always together, side by side, even in the woods cutting fire wood. They enjoyed decorating for Christmas and took 4th place this year in Munising decorating competition. Phil was also very proud of the hard work that he and Joyce put in working for the Road Commission and their contract of caring for the roadside parks at Grand Island “Top of the World”, Scott Falls, Deer Lake, and Kiva where they would visit, clean, and maintain seven days a week for the six months they were open every year.
Phil is survived by his wife – Joyce Marzion of Munising; sisters – Darlene Wallace and Janette Lapinski; stepchildren – Maxwell Genaw and Michael Genaw; and numerous nieces and nephews. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Genevieve, and brothers, John, Dennis, and Frank Marzion
