Ralph Edgar Watkins, age 63, of Koski Road, AuTrain Township, died early Sunday morning, September 22, 2013 at Munising Memorial Hospital following a five month illness. He was born on April 20, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan to the late James W. and Anne G. (Keilman) Watkins. Ralph graduated from Cass Tech High School in Detroit in 1968 and then studied at Michigan State University. He worked in a steel mill and then spent time as a folk singer. Ralph then went to work in the tool and die industry, first for himself and then for Chivas Plastics. He worked there for twenty years and after retirement, moved to the Upper Peninsula. Ralph had been active with the Munising Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, spending time on his computer, listening to music, and reading.
Ralph is survived by his siblings - James (Kathy) Watkins of Burton, MI, Doran (Donna) Watkins of South Lyon, MI, Susan (Roy) Ericson of Garner, NC, Don Watkins of Belleville, MI, Joel Watkins of Redford, MI, and Sally (Chris) Mowers of Hamburg, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Trudy Watkins.
