Munising

Randy Gatiss, age 63, of Munising, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 17, 2023 while in Franklin, Wisconsin.

Randy was born February 1, 1960 in Munising, MI the fourth of eight children to Robert Bruce and Lois Marie (Mellin) Gatiss. Randy graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1978. He was married to Patty Horvat on September 4, 1982 and they had two children, Nicole and Joe.

Randy was a very talented individual and could do almost anything he put his mind to. He was never afraid to tackle a job. He started his work career at a very young age working for his dad at Leaches Bar. Randy held many jobs throughout his life. He was an iron worker and belonged to the Steel Workers Union. Randy was also involved in several businesses including Gatiss Flooring and Little Fella. He learned the carpet and flooring business from his brother Geoff. They were in business together for 32 years.

Over the years, Randy enjoyed hunting and fishing. More recently, he liked woodworking and specialized in making bird houses. He also enjoyed watching his Detroit Lions and cruising around town on his moped. He liked tinkering on things and being with his friends. Randy always had a smile on his face and could never say no to a family member or friend who needed his help.

He is survived by his mother Lois; children – Nicole and Joe; siblings all from Munising; sisters – Cheryl Cotey, Judy St. Amour, and Rosemarie “Ree” (Terry) DesJardins; brothers – Robert “Bruce” Gatiss Jr., Richard (Terry) Gatiss, Geoff (Donna Nikunen) Gatiss and James (Joyce) Gatiss; numerous nieces and nephews. Randy was preceded in death by his father Robert “Bob” Gatiss.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 5, 2024 at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  Randy’s memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Randy’s name may be made to Great Lakes Recovery Centers, 97 South 4^th Street, Ishpeming, MI 49849 or at https://glrcfoundation.org/donate/
