Raymond "Ray" Leroy Cornish

Raymond "Ray" Leroy Cornish, Sr., age 79, of Munising, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at his home on Center Street. He was born on December 23, 1929 to the late Jesse and Margaret (Tedford) Cornish. Ray entered the U.S. Army on March 14, 1947 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on August 23, 1948. He married Mildred "Milly" Lee on September 8, 1949 and together they raised their four children. Ray worked a number of years for the Rail Road as a Section Hand before starting at Kimberly Clark on May 2, of 1960. He held multiple positions, and retired as a tractor driver in the Material Handling Department on January 1, 1992 after working over thirty-one years. Ray also worked as a wood worker, logging for several local loggers. In his retirement, he enjoyed working for the Forest Service picking pine cones for their planting programs. Ray was very particular about his picking, he was very meticulous and clean in his process. Ray was known as quite a character by all of his friends. He enjoyed many things but his favorite thing was to be in the woods picking cones with his brother Fred.
Ray is survived by his four children - Carol (Jim) Seppi of Lansing, MI, Janet (Bob) Gross of Hamilton, MI, Raymond "Bobe" (Donna) Cornish of Westminster, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Linda (John) Ely of Shingleton; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; brothers - Fred and Tom Cornish; sisters - Kay Wilmont and Betty Ronholt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Milly on July 3, 1975, and sisters Violet and Edna.
Per Ray's request, there will be no public services at this time.
