Rebecca Lyon of Munising, died of metastatic breast cancer at her home on Sunday afternoon, April 19, 2015 under the care of her husband, co-workers, and North Woods Hospice. She was born in Hastings, Michigan on July 5, 1950 to the late Leo and Mary (Bowling) Lyon. Becky became a Registered Nurse after studying at the Harper Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit. She married DuWayne Dresden in 1978. Rebecca worked at Providence Hospital for a few years before she and DuWayne decided to make their home in a place more rural than Detroit. They moved to Munising in 1978 and Becky worked as a nurse at the Munising Memorial Hospital for thirty-five years. She was a gifted gardener and enjoyed grafting heirloom apple and fruit trees. Becky was a member of the Fruit Tree Explorers and a lifetime member of the Seed Savers. Rebecca enjoyed her pets and raised chickens and rabbits. She was a wonderful caregiver and lovingly cared for her brother at her home for ten years.
Rebecca is survived by her husband - DuWayne Dresden of Munising; her brother - Daniel Lyon of the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette; two uncles - Paul Lyon and Clyde Lyon; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Becky's services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. There will be visiting time with family and friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Her funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home's chapel. There will be a time for sharing Becky stories and friends and family will be encouraged to participate.
A special thank you needs to be expressed to the staff at Marquette Oncology, Dr. Ross Siemers, and P.A. Steve Gualdoni for the excellent care they gave to Becky during her illness.
In lieu of flowers or donations, if someone wishes to do something in memory of Becky, they should plant an heirloom fruit tree to honor her true spirit and they will be reminded of her every time they pass the tree.
