Richard "Dick" Glatus

Richard "Dick" L. Glatus, age 83, of Rapid River and formerly of Munising, died at his home on Wednesday morning, March 28, 2012 following a brief illness. He was born on May 20, 1928 in Munising to the late Albert and Lillian (VanDorn) Glatus. Dick was raised in Munising and attended school there. He married Barbara Jean Cooper in 1952. Dick sailed the Great Lakes on the ore boats of U.S. Steel for twenty-seven years before retiring. He was a past member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Munising Moose Lodge. Dick moved to Rapid River in 1989 and enjoyed his time on Lake Michigan on Garth Point. He loved to fish and enjoyed hunting, trapping, and spending time with his grandchildren. Dick attended the Fishermen's Landing Church in Escanaba.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years - Barbara Glatus of Munising; son - Tom (Kathy) Glatus of Escanaba; daughter - Cheryl Anderson of Munising; grandchildren - Michael and Maria Murdock and Alan and Melissa Glatus; great-grandchildren - Kalie and Ellarie; sister - Marlin Wiltzie of Virginia; brother - Tom Husson of Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jim and Bob Glatus, and sisters Billie Husson and Joy Thompson.

A memorial service will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Sunday, April 1, 2012. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Pastor Mike Engelsman will conduct Dick's memorial service in the funeral home's chapel at 4:00 p.m.
