Richard Harvey Karr

Richard Harvey Karr, age 97, of Munising, died following a brief illness on Sunday morning, August 4, 2024 at Medilodge of Munising. He was born on March 31, 1927 in Pontiac, Michigan to Howard and Eva (Webb) Karr. The family moved to the Upper Peninsula when Rich was a young child. He worked with Jim Ward at the Mobile Gas Station in Munising before beginning employment at Kimberly Clark. Rich worked in the Specialties Department and retired in 1989. He had married Geraldine “Gerry” Savoie on June 11, 1949 and together they raised their daughters. Rich and Gerry enjoyed spending their time together working craft shows where they showcased his woodworking skills. They also enjoyed traveling to forty-six states on their Gold Wing motorcycle. They were married almost seventy-five years when she preceded him in death on April 15, 2024. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Lions fan, and Rich faithfully watched and listened to the Tigers. He also really enjoyed playing his guitar with his siblings at family get togethers. Throughout his years and this brief illness, he never lost his sense of humor.

 Rich is survived by his daughters – Ann (Bob) Mals of Shingleton and Deby (Jim) Casey of Munising; ten grandchildren – Nicole Peterson Flores, Derek (Sarah) Peterson, Bobby Mals, Jennifer Warner, Owen (Sarah) Warner, Russ (Elisa) Card, Gregg (Phyllis) Murk, Justin Murk, Misty (Gary) Gurski, and Erin (Jake) Wallace; eighteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; sisters – Hilda Graves, Clara Lindeblad, and Helen Mattson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Eva, wife Gerry, infant daughter Patty June Karr, daughter Lois Helsel, and brother Merle Karr.

 Private graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery.
