Grand Marais
Richard "Dick" Mulligan, age 79, of Everett Street, Grand Marais, died on Tuesday morning, March 11, 2008 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. He was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on May 16, 1928 to Russell John and Orilla Marie (Nantell) Mulligan. His family moved to Grand Marais when he was an infant and he graduated from Grand Marais High School in 1946. Dick served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He lived in Wisconsin for many years and returned home to Grand Marais in the late 1970's. Dick was a commercial fisherman on Lake Michigan in Port Washington and Lake Superior in Grand Marais for over forty years. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Church, Knights of Columbus, and Germfask V.F.W. Dick enjoyed small game hunting.
He is survived by brother - Michael Mulligan of Edwardsburg, MI; sisters - Beatrice (Bob) Ellis of Grand Marais, Adele Barney of Grand Marais, Lorraine (Tom) Letcher of Cedar Park, TX, and Valerie (Alan) Fyvie of Lawton, MI; sister-in-law - Joan Mulligan of Denver, CO; brother-in-law - Tom Russell of Grand Rapids; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brother - Patrick Mulligan, sisters - Faye LeFebvre-Beaune and Shirley Russell; sister-in-law - Maureen Mulligan and brother-in-law - Mark Barney.
All services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Grand Marais. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Karrottekunnel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Grand Marais where the Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors in the spring.
