Munising
Richard "Dick" Trombly, age 72, of 123 E. Onota Street, Munising, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, December 9, 2010. He was born on January 12, 1938 in Detroit to Urban "Tubby" and Irene (Beaudry) Trombly. Dick graduated from Sacred Heart School and then from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1957. During high school, he was a talented athlete who quarterbacked the football team and played on the basketball team. Dick moved to the Detroit area where he married Joyce LaBelle and they raised their seven children. He worked various jobs until he began employment with Associated Spring - Barns Group in Ann Arbor. Dick retired from there as Plant Manager and returned home to Munising in 1987. He worked at Madigan's Hardware, painted for the Pictured Rocks Boat Cruises, and painted for people around town. Dick was known for his meticulous painting and woodworking skills. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and in his younger days enjoyed hunting and fishing. Dick was a member of the "Over the Hill Hunt Club," played in the pool league, played Smear, enjoyed socializing with his friends, and was a classic agitator.
He is survived by seven children - Laura Trombly of Brighton, Duane Trombly of Novi, Kay Trombly of Milford, Jill (Tim) Gorman of Livonia, Andy Trombly of Novi, Travis (Sherry) Trombly of Redford and Clint (Jennifer) Trombly of Waterford; former wife and mother of the children - Joyce Trombly of Novi; grandchildren - Sean Etty, Alison and Bryan Gottschalk, Abigail and Benjamin Trombly, Joshua, Alec and Trey Gorman and another grandbaby on the way; sisters - Sharon (Pete) Seaberg and Diane (Barry) Hoover all of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents Tubby and Irene and by his sister Brenda Tannehill.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner at Sacred Heart Church in Munising on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
