Richard "Junie" Holland, Jr.

Richard “Junie” Holland, Jr., age 16, of Munising, died suddenly and unexpectedly at home on Sunday, June 12, 2022.  He was born in Saginaw on July 11, 2005 at 6:41 p.m. to Richard and Danielle (Rice) Holland, Sr.  Junie began his schooling at the Health Professional building on Central Michigan University’s campus.  He went to Ganiard and Mary McGuire Elementary schools in Mt. Pleasant.  While Danielle was attending grad school at NMU, Junie went to Sandy Knoll Elementary.  Her teaching job took the family to the Tahquamenon Area Schools and Junie had a great support staff there.  He became a Mustang at Mather Elementary School and then Munising High School.  Junie would have been a Senior this fall.

Junie loved music and to sing and harmonize.  He liked to do things on his time and his way.  Junie loved car rides, especially down bumpy roads where he would giggle and giggle.  Junie loved his family.

He is survived by his mom – Danielle Holland of Munising; brother - Thomas Holland of Central Michigan; sisters -  Elizabeth (Nick Maxon) Holland and Erin (Jordan Thorp) Holland all of Munising; his nieces – Charlotte and Riley; grandparents – Cheryl (Donnie) Mosley of Birch Run and Daniel (Nancy Colton) Rice of Bay City; great-grandmother – Janet Rice of Mt. Pleasant; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his amazing support group at Mather/Munising H.S. of  “Team Junie.”

Junie was preceded in death by his father Richard Holland Sr. on May 30, 2022, an infant baby sister, his grandparents Joan and Larris Holland, and his great-grandfather Herb Rice.

Services for Junie will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Thursday, June 16, 2022.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon and a brief prayer service will be held at noon.  Junie’s world was spent on the floor or in his wheelchair.  During the visitation and funeral service, Junie will be on his blankets and surrounded by his toys.  Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
