Ricki "Rick" A. Franz, age 63, of Munising and formerly of Clinton Township, MI, died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at his home, under the loving care of his wife and North Woods Home Care. He was born on July 13, 1951 in Detroit, MI to the late Edward and Ruthe (Coleman) Franz. In 1969, at the age of eighteen he began his employment at Chrysler. Rick worked 31 ½ years as a hilo driver. He eventually moved to the Upper Peninsula where he had visited for years with his family to make his home. Rick enjoyed drag racing in minor league races, watching (NHRA) National Hot Rod Association Races, and arguing with the TV over political issues.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years - Gerry Franz of Munising; children - Crystal (Tom) Sefcovic of Roseville, MI, William (Sabine) Springstead of East Point, MI, Robert (Gina) Crowton of Bradenton, FL, Tracy Crowton of St. Clair, MI, Lynn (Josh) Coppersmith, and Keith Franz both of Port Huron, MI; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers - Chuck Foster, Michael (Marge) Foster, and William Franz; sister - Tami (Tom)Pomaville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Fr. Chris Gardiner will conduct a memorial service beginning at 11:00 at the funeral home.
