Manistique
Robert "Bob" F. Gilbertson, age 73, of N. 6th Street, Manistique died early Thursday evening, March 29, 2012 at the Schoolcraft County Medical Care Facility. He was born on September 12, 1938 in Park Falls, Wisconsin to the late Fred and Ruth (Olson) Gilbertson. Bob graduated from Ontonagon High School and then served two years in the U.S. Army. Bob married A. Pauline Sherwood in Munising. He worked construction in Wisconsin and then moved to Manistique. He worked as a mechanic at Curran Chevrolet for thirty-two years before retiring in 2000. Bob was a past member of the Eagles Club in Manistique. He enjoyed taking rides with Pauline and when he was young he enjoyed fishing and gardening. Bob also enjoyed his pets, especially his dog, Sid.
Bob is survived by his wife - Pauline of Manistique; children - Bobby, Carson, Jalene, Corina, Rodney, and Jimmy; brothers - Tom Gilbertson, Lawrence (Linda) Gilbertson, and Fred (Pat) Gilbertson; sister - Eleanor (George) Bittner; sister-in-law Wanda Gilbertson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Jimmy, and brothers Gary and Edwin. Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Pastor Kevin Taylor of the Assembly of God Church in Harvey will conduct Bob's service in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery where Alger County's American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
