Robert F. Johnson, age 62, of Indiantown Road in Munising, died Tuesday morning January 27, 2015 at 10:42 a.m. at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Hospice, following a long and courageous battle with metastatic melanoma. Robert was born in Marquette on June 14, 1952 to the late Frank and Mary (Denman) Johnson, Jr. He grew up in Beaver Grove and then the family moved to Gogarten Heights on Connors Road. He attended Sacred Heart School and then graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1969. Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corps from July 7, 1969 until July 6, 1972 where he served in the Mediterranean during the Vietnam War. He would tell people he worked with four branches of the armed forces: serving in the Marine Corps, traveled with the Navy, joined the Army Reserve, and worked with the Air Force at K.I. Sawyer. Robert married Debra Jean Kroupa on July 9, 1971 and together they raised their five children. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the American Legion. He was a hardworking man and retired from K.I. Sawyer in 1995, the State of Michigan in 2008, and graduated from NMU with a Bachelor's Degree in Science 1994. Robert enjoyed trips to the casino with his father-in-law Darwin, and whoever he could talk into driving him there. He loved God, family, country, classic cars, sixties music, and teasing his grandchildren. These grandchildren can tell you all about grandpa's pet dinosaur he keeps in the basement.
