Robert “Bob” V. Zalanskas, age 77, of Wetmore, MI and formerly of Merrimac, Massachusetts, died Monday, April 15, 2024 at his home. He was born on June 25, 1946 in Lynn, MA to the late Victor and Adele (Paplauskas) Zalanskas. Bob graduated from Michigan Tech University in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. While at MTU, he met Molly B. Flynn and they were married in Munising on September 13, 1969. Bob worked for Raytheon as a Process Engineer for the Missile System Division at the Lowell, MA and Quincy, MA facilities for 20 years. He retired in 1996. In his retirement, Bob took on many projects. One of these was restoring a 1930 Ford Model A. If he wasn’t tinkering on his car, he was taking on projects in or around his home trying to stay busy. Bob also enjoyed gardening and woodworking. His talented projects in his workshop were a passion for him. Bob would make puzzles and models. He and Molly designed and built their home in Wetmore, and Bob made the cabinets and dining room table. No project was too small or too big. He enjoyed listening to polka music. Bob’s passion for music started when he learned to play the saxophone and clarinet at a young age and continued his playing well into his adulthood. Bob and Molly were married over fifty-one years when she preceded him in death on August 17, 2021.
Bob is survived by his son – Joseph Zalanskas of Michigan; daughter – Jennifer (Brian) McGuane of Leominster, MA; grandchildren – David, Connor, and Colleen; sister – Eileen Thunstrom; and numerous nieces and nephews.
