Robertta “Bertie” Giese, age 74, of 218 W. Chocolay Street, Munising, passed away peacefully surrounded by family with song and prayer on Sunday afternoon, February 25, 2018 at U.P. Health System Marquette following a week-long illness. She was born in Hamtramck, Michigan on June 14, 1943 to the late Theodore and Cibble (Wilderspin) Golisek. After WWII was over, the family moved back to Munising and Bert graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School in 1961. She and her sister, Donna, moved to Chicago where Bertie worked for the Nielsen Media Research Company. She married Daniel Giese and he joined the U.S. Navy. They were stationed in Norfolk, VA and Pensacola, FL. They returned to Munising and together had two sons, Dan and Dale, and later parted ways. Bertie waitressed at the Red Cedar and Camp II. She met Jack Witty and shared over the past thirty years together without an argument. To say that Bert was a passionate Green Bay Packer fan would be an understatement. She also enjoyed camping, traveling, music, dancing, and spending time with their grandchildren. Bertie had a kindness that surrounded her and enveloped those that were near her.
