Rolland "Bud" Roy Dwight, age 80, of Smith Lake Road, Manistique died at his home on Friday, March 27, 2009. He was born on February 2, 1929, in Tupper Lake, New York, to the late Roy and Mary (Cote) Dwight. Bud married Jane Gonyea of Saranac Lake, NY on April 7, 1951. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy during WWII, and served in the Pacific Theatre being honorably discharged in November of 1949 to then be recalled to active duty during the Korean War until November of 1953 where he was discharged again. Bud was considered to be a hardwood lumber expert. He worked his entire career either manufacturing or selling hardwood lumber. Bud's expertise was widely sought by lumber mills across the U.S. He was a general superintendent for Oval Wood Dish Corp., Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co., and Mead Products. Bud was a past Post Commander of the Tupper Lake American Legion and was also a member of Post #131 of Munising.
He was survived by his wife of fifty-eight years - Jane, of Manistique, MI; sons - Warren of Christmas, MI, Wayne (Jesse) of Russellville, KY, Sean of Munising, MI; daughter - Mary (Jody) of Marysville, OH; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister - Joan; brother - Warren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his sons - Matthew and Brian; his parents; and sister - Dorothy.
Fr. Chris Gardiner will conduct Bud's memorial service which will be on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
