Munising
Ronald "Peanut" Davis, age 62, of E. Munising Avenue, died on Thursday morning, September 29, 2011at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette following a lengthy and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Peanut's endurance and will to live amazed family, friends and many medical professionals for over ten years. He was born in Munising on January 4, 1949 to Victor and Lois (Carlson) Davis. Peanut graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1967. He moved to Holland and worked for Holland Dye Cast before entering the U.S. Army from October 2, 1968 until May 6, 1970. Peanut served in Vietnam and earned the National Defense, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign and Good Conduct Medals. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for heroism in ground combat on the 29th of September while serving in Vietnam. In 1969, he married Sandra L. Bernard and later that year, their son Bruce Michael was born. After being honorably discharged in 1970, Peanut and Sandy moved back to Holland and Peanut continued to work for Holland Dye Cast until 1974 when they returned back home to Munising. Their daughter, Angela Shay was born in 1974. Peanut worked different jobs through the years. He cut pulp, was a ski hill operator, worked for Bonevelle construction and then AMCAB. He was a co-owner of K & D Kitchens and owned and operated Davis Construction and Purofirst / Ron's Restoration. Peanut was a member of the American Legion and life member of the VVA and DAV. He was a co-founder of the Vietnam Veterans of America - Chapter 237. He served as President, Chaplain and started, wrote and published the monthly VVA newsletter "Sit Rep." Peanut had a wonderful sense of humor and he loved jokes and to laugh. If there was a party, you could count on him to be the "Music Man" and share his love of music with his huge speakers. He enjoyed bowling (in three leagues), playing ping pong and pool, cooking, boating, camping, his "grand dog" and cheering on his Green Bay Packers football team.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of over forty-two years - Sandy Davis of Munising; children - Bruce Michael (Renee) Davis and Angela Shay Davis; mother - Lois Davis; siblings - Arlene (Bob) Nickerson, Janet Vaughn, Larry (Nancy) Davis, Betty Jo (Joe) Schell, and Pam (Rick) Kammeraad; parents-in-law - Russ and Bonnie Bernard; in-laws - Lynne Bowerman, Jake (Donna) Bernard, Jude Holloway, Russ Bernard, Sheryl (Tim) Anderson, Sue (Mark) Jokela and Georgia "Carol" Davis; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends.
